Five Day Tour 2010
Day One
Perth, Merredin, Southern Cross, Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie
To day we head east on the Great Eastern Highway to Merredin to take a break.
Merredin
is the largest regional centre in the Central Eastern Wheatbelt. It is
a thriving business centre, with plenty of parks and gardens creating a
flourishing sense of community.
Southern Cross the
major town centre of the Shire of Yilgarn is known by many as the
Gateway to the Wheatbelt and the Goldfields. The name 'Yilgarn' is
Aboriginal for 'white stone' or 'quartz'.
Visit the Yilgarn
History Museum the earliest Registrar's Office in Western Australia and
the courthouse, now the Museum, built in 1892.
Coolgardie is
known to most Western Australians as a tourist town and a ghost town;
it was once the third largest town in Western Australia. At this time,
mining of alluvial gold was a major industry which was short lived.
Coolgardie is also known as the Mother of Western Australia’s gold
fields
Kalgoorlie is known for its illustrious night life,
you may like to visit a bar to get an impression of gold mining in
Western Australia’s outback

Day Two

Today
we visit the Super Pit Mine and the Super Pit Shop. The Super Pit
produces up to 850,000 ounces of gold every year and its operation far
outweighs any other mining centre in Australia. The Super Pit is the
biggest gold open pit mine in the country.
We will have an early
lunch and then head north to Snake Hill at Lake Ballard to see
sculptures by world renowned artist Antony Gormley. In Side Australia
Art Instillation is at one of Western Australia’s most unusual and
remote cultural attractions – Inside Australia. The artwork is a
collection of 50 black steel sculptures standing over 10 square
kilometres of the white salt plain of Lake Ballard near the town of
Menzies. Each sculpture represents one of the 131 local residents,
whose bodies were scanned for casts.

Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Esperance
This
morning we visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service to get an insight view
of how the RFDS operated in the pass and how it operates today
servicing the Western Australian isolated regions in the Outback.
We tour to Norseman and on to Esperance our overnight stay
Norseman
is situated at the junction of Highways 1 and 94; Norseman is at the
crossroads to everywhere. It is the main town of the Shire of Dundas
which covers an area of some 93,000 square kilometres, stretching all
the way to Eucla on the Western Australian / South Australian border in
the East 704km and 198km towards Hyden in the West. It extends
some 45km towards Kalgoorlie in the North and 50km towards Esperance in
the South.
Take a look at The Tin Camels that stand in the
town as a tribute to the camel trains that carried mail and freight in
the early days.
Tour on to Esperance our stay for the next
two nights. We are staying at Esperance B&B by the Sea. Situated
5km out of town centre overlooking the Recherche Archipelago. Wake up
to stunning sunrises over the Esperance Bay. A short walk from
surf and fishing beaches and looks over to the calm waters of Blue
Haven Bay with walk paths above the beach or go for a walk on the beach.

Day Four
Esperance, Woody Island, Cape Le Grande National Park, Esperance
Esperance is Australia's best-kept secret.
The
Esperance region is distinguished by spectacular coastal scenery and a
diversity of wildlife including seals, dolphins, whales, emus and sea
eagles plus pristine beaches and 110 islands that make up the Recherche
Archipelago. With stunning national parks this is one of a few places
in Western Australia where you may see kangaroos sunbathing on the
beach.
The region enjoys a Mediterranean type climate
ideal for prime farming and grazing. Esperance has a large port where
Iron Ore from Koolyanobbing is exported using Mega ships.
Today
we join the Bay of Isles Wildlife Cruise - Half Day Departs 9 am Daily,
returns 12.30 pm A morning cruise amongst the magnificent islands of
the Recherche Archipelago aboard a catamaran viewing of wildlife in its
natural environment, New Zealand Fur Seals, Australian Sea Lions, Cape
Barren Geese , Dolphins, White-breasted Sea Eagles. Highlight of the
morning is a one hour stay on Woody Island for morning tea
This
afternoon we visit Cape Le Grand National Park and enjoy stunning
scenic coastal views 80km east of town (this trip is a must). You
may see kangaroos relaxing on the beach at Lucky Bay. Visit Hellfire
Bay and other stunning bays and beaches.
Time permitting climb Frenchman's Peak, a fun and moderate climb with fantastic views.

Day Five
Esperance, Ravensthorpe, Wave Rock, Hyden, York, Perth
This morning we start our return trip to Perth
We will take a break at Ravensthorpe for morning tea and then continue on to Wave Rock near Hyden
Ravensthorpe
is an agricultural township with a history of gold and copper mining in
the early 1900 and latterly nickel mining which in recent times has
been affected by events of the global economy.
Wave Rock is on a
natural reserve of 160 hectares. Geologists believe the original
formation has been sculpted by weathering and coloured by
mineralisation over 2,700 million years to take on its wave like
character. The Rock rises 15 meters above the ground and 110 metres
long like a giant wave about to break. Visit Hippo’s Yawn.
Corrigin
nestled in the central Wheatbelt is predominantly a farming community
with cropping and sheep its main industries. Corrigin hosts the
unique community fund raiser The Dog in the Ute Event. This event
involves the coming together of two great rural Aussie icons - the
'Ute' and man's best friend, the 'Dog' in an attempt to break a World
Record, raise funds to donate back into the community and other
organizations, the Royal Flying Doctor Service and to encourage
visitors and provide recognition to Rural WA to boost their profile.
Before
driving into Perth we will take a break at York for afternoon tea. York
is Western Australia's first in land rural town 1831. York is a
historic and charming rural town rich in Victorian and Federation
buildings.
